This was my first experience reading a book by Michael Phillip Cash, and I have got to say I was delightfully surprised that I absolutely LOVED this book! A full fledged Fantasy/Suspense book, it is strung with self searching, adventure, inner and outer wars, and  even love. In this book, Prince V’sair is a young 19 year old “mixed breed” so to speak who has yet to use his power (the Fireblade) or even begin to understand what it is and learn it’s secrets. Not yet knowing his full potential, he is left to handle destruction, death, and war ill-equipped and not yet understanding the full weight of what he is up against.

Michael does an excellent job making it feel like you are right there standing next to Prince V’sair as he works to harness his power and find out who he truly is inside. Will he find himself and harness his power in time to save his beloved Darracia? To complicate things, he begins to fall in love with Tulani, his mother’s hand maiden, who takes V’sair to her people for help, to find out they are also in trouble when they arrive.

I absolutely enjoyed reading this book from beginning to end. Though I wish it offered more by way of relationships, it gives enough to understand the plot and who each being that is presented in the story is and how they belong.  It is concise, and written in a way that readers of all ages can read it, from young to old, without being left wondering what was being talked about or feeling like a book was just read “meant for the grand kids.”

It grabs attention from the very start and is a very super read. Full of intense moments and a struggle to find one’s self, Schism has the ability to not only entertain, but associate with it’s readers as well. Readers young and old can really associate with Prince V’sairs need to find himself and self seek because they have already been there or are there right now. Due to it’s variety of  situations from action to romance, it is a book that will grasp every readers attention and pull them in leading them to want more and more until the very end.  (and then some!)   I very much enjoyed this book and look forward to reading the next book (Collision-The Battle for Darracia) since Schism left me wanting more and full of anticipation for what comes next. Schism has done an amazing  job of building the suspense for book #2- Five stars for Michael Philip Cash!
